All interested applicants are required to attend this meeting, as it is the first step to becoming a homeowner. The meeting will consist of two hours covering the qualifications for this program. Applications are only given out at this meeting. There are two meeting dates scheduled to accommodate everyone's schedule. The same information will be covered at both meetings; therefore, you are only required to attend ONE meeting. The dates for the meeting are below:
Friday, March 22nd, from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm
Saturday, March 23rd, from 10 am-12 noon
The meeting will be held at Opelika Middle School in the cafeteria at 1206 Denson Drive, Opelika, AL 36801.
Habitat for Humanity is a hand-up program for hard-working partner families. Homeowners are selected based on three criteria: Need for housing, willingness to pay, and ability to pay. Partner families must also have a reasonable credit history and meet the HUD income guidelines. The homeowner process takes about 2 years to complete. Habitat homes are not simply given; they are well-earned. Selected partner families must be willing to work very hard to save a down payment, volunteer 500 hours to work on other homes and their own, complete home ownership and financial classes, and make a no-interest mortgage payment, which is recycled to help build more homes.
