Annual Employee Meeting (October 2024)
At Auburn Housing Authority’s Annual Employee Meeting, we came together to thank our incredible team for all they do and to plan new strategies for serving our community. Every role here is vital, and their dedication empowers our residents and strengthens our mission. We also celebrated the retirement of our Resident Service Coordinator, Charlotte Mattox, whose contributions have left a lasting impact on our team and the residents she served. Here’s to another year of growth and impact!
AHA Fall Festival (October 2024)
The Auburn Housing Authority's Fall Festival, held on October 10th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 931 Booker Street, was a vibrant success! The free event drew in residents and community members, providing an engaging space for connections and resource sharing. Attendees had the opportunity to meet local Public Safety officials and Auburn police officers, fostering stronger relationships between residents and those who serve the community. In addition to informative conversations, the event featured delicious food, fun games, and exciting giveaways, bringing people together for a festive afternoon. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie, as neighbors connected and families enjoyed the various activities. The Fall Festival not only showcased the resources available to the community but also helped build a sense of unity and partnership among Auburn residents.
84th Annual AAHRA Conference (September 2024)
The Auburn Housing Authority (AHA) has been honored with not one but TWO prestigious awards at the 84th Annual AAHRA-Alabama Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities Conference! -2024 AAHRA Collaboration Award (State) for our strong partnerships and collaborative efforts that make a positive impact in our community. -2024 AAHRA Best Practices Award (State) recognizing LHA for innovative and forward-thinking approaches to housing solutions. A huge thank you to our team, partners, and residents for helping us achieve these milestones! Let's keep pushing forward and creating brighter futures together!
National Night Out (August 2024)
National Night Out hosted by Auburn Public Safety was a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together, build stronger relationships with local law enforcement and foster a true sense of community.
Ridgecrest Back To School (July 2024)
The Ridgecrest community buzzed with excitement during our back-to-school supply giveaway, generously sponsored by the City of Auburn Public Safety Department. Kids' smiles were the highlight as families received essential school supplies to kickstart the new academic year. A huge thank you to our sponsors for their incredible support!
Sparkman Back To School (July 2024)
The Auburn Housing Authority held a successful back-to-school supply giveaway at Sparkman, sponsored by Southern States Bank. Families received essential supplies, and the kids' smiles lit up the event. Check out the photos to see the community in action!
Bingo Fun Day (June 2024)
Our Bingo Fun Day was a resounding success, filled with laughter, excitement, and community spirit. We had such a great time! The tenants were so excited about the games. There were twenty-three tenants in attendance and 1 Board Member. A few came in a little late because they forgot that the event was today. All were glad they made it to the event. I had made extra markers, since we ran out last time. They really enjoyed the jokes from our volunteer caller, Reverend Wallace Williamson. He had everyone laughing. There was water available for the tenants. Prizes were given to the winners of each game. We had a tie game, once, and an extra game at the end of the event. No winner left without a prize. Prizes were donated by Board Chairwoman, Barbara Leverett and LHA Property Manager, Christina Williamson. .
What Home Means to Me Poster Contest Participants (May 2024)
The What Home Means to Me poster contest is an annual competition that recognizes the art of children who live in affordable housing. The contest has been held since 2008 by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) in collaboration with its local, state, and regional chapters. The contest's goal is to highlight the importance of the work done by community development professionals and housers.
Wonderful Wednesdays
Auburn University's Campus Kitchen not only provides meals for our Wonderful Wednesday and Mentoring Moms’ Programs, but they also send volunteers to assist the Resident Services Coordinator, Charlotte Mattox, with serving the residents. Golden-agers 60 years and up are welcome to join us. During this event we have a luncheon filled with fun activities, informational guest speakers and building friendships from all sites.
Finance Helps Workshop (May 2024)
Bart Aldridge from Regions Bank presented helpful financial ideas to our residents on May 1st. He explained the differences between the different bank accounts and loans. He made the point to stay away from companies who have high interest rates for people who needed a fast dollar, not knowing the consequences they would have to pay later. He talked about the scams that are taking place with their companies and discussed ways to prevent becoming a victim.
LHA Graduation Reception (May 2024)
LaFayette Housing Authority (LHA) recently hosted a graduation reception for our LaFayette High School seniors. The event celebrated the academic achievements of students residing in LHA-managed properties, highlighting their hard work and dedication. Families, friends, and community members gathered to honor the graduates, who were presented with certificates. We congratulate the graduates and wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Bingo Fun Day! (April 2024)
On April 23rd, the LHA hosted a lively BINGO event! There were sixteen (16) attendees. The room was filled with excitement! Reverend Wallace Williamson, our volunteer caller, kept everyone laughing with his jokes. Winners of each game received prizes, with a couple of tie games leading to an extra round. No one left empty-handed. Refreshments were provided, adding to the fun. The event was a great success, and we look forward to the next one at LHA!
Child Abuse Prevention (April 2024)
The Family Resource Center hosted the monthly Envision Meeting with a presentation for the National Child Abuse Prevention Month. They brought out that the most common Child abuse is • Adverse Head Trauma • Adverse Childhood Experience • Child Neglect • Child Physical Abuse • Child Sexual Abuse The Envision Meetings are gatherings of various businesses and organizations who come together as a team to network and seek opportunities to better the community. During Child Abuse Awareness Month in April, blue pinwheels bring awareness to our community's commitment to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Bravehearts (April 2024)
BraveHearts is a Center for Place and Purpose is a joint outreach program of the Auburn University Social Work Program in the College of Liberal Arts and First Presbyterian Church of Auburn providing therapeutic daily routine and community participation for adults with disabilities facing moderate-severe life challenges. It serves as an intensive diversity and inclusion training opportunity for Auburn University interns and volunteers across a variety of disciplines. The students have partnered with our AHA’s golden-agers for an enrichment program. The students reach out to our seniors by making arts and crafts to build relationships and community.
Credit Repair Workshop (April 2024)
On April 4th, Daniel Hughes from Cadence Bank taught our residents how to repair, secure, and build credit. He demonstrated the difference with getting a loan with various credit scores. Having great credit will save you money in the long run. The higher your credit score, the less interest will be paid.
Wonderful Wednesday (March 2024)
Wonderful Wednesdays allow residents 60+ to come together for fellowship, food, and fun.
Life Coach Seminar (March 2024)
Latoya Jackson, renowned speaker and advocate for personal development, captivated our residents with an enlightening discourse on the importance of crafting lifealtering goals in conjunction with an accountability partner. Her message resonated deeply, inspiring all in attendance to embrace the power of collaboration and accountability as catalysts for transformative success.
Food Pantry Volunteers (Feb 2024)
Target Employees Keisha Fields, Alycia Cox, and Gerald Griggs, Domestic Violence Intervention Interns Ansley Garner and Elere Varden, and Social Work Intern Ariel Willis volunteered to stock the pantry. We thank all volunteers who take the time to make a difference in others' lives by volunteering at the Boykin Food Pantry.
BraveHearts Valentine Luncheon (Feb 2024)
BraveHearts interns from the joint outreach program of Auburn University Social Work Program and First Presbyterian Church of Auburn were the featured speakers at the Valentine luncheon. BraveHearts aims to provide therapeutic daily routines and community engagement for adults with disabilities, offering diversity and inclusion training for Auburn University interns and volunteers. Currently, BraveHearts is partnering with Auburn Housing Authority senior citizens to establish an adopt a grandparent program, where participants create artwork for seniors, fostering friendships and mutual support.
Sandra's Retirement Party (Jan 2024)
As Sandra Sanders approaches the milestone of 29.5 years of dedicated service with us, we are excited to celebrate her remarkable journey and contributions to our organization. As the Administrative Assistant under then Executive Director Lee Eastman and current CEO Sharon Tolbert. She was promoted to Administrative Assistant Accounting in August 2006 and then to Executive Administrative Assistant in July 2014. She has worn many hats during her employment at AHA and calls herself Jackie of all trades, Master of none. She has fostered good relationships with staff, tenants, and all the Boards of Commissioners. Please join us in expressing our heartfelt appreciation and warmest wishes to Sandra as she embarks on this new chapter.
2024 MLK Day Scholarship Breakfast (Jan 2024)
The 2024 MLK Day Scholarship Breakfast served as a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from unity and diversity within our community. It was heartening to see individuals from various backgrounds come together to celebrate a shared vision of equality. As we reflect on the insights gained from the breakfast, let's consider how we can actively contribute to the principles espoused by Dr. King in our respective capacities.
Annual Christmas Luncheon and Dirty Santa (Dec 2023)
What a festive and joyful event we had at our Annual Christmas Luncheon and Dirty Santa at the Marriott in Opelika, AL. Our team gathered for a delicious feast filled with laughter, good food, and the warmth of holiday cheer. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the year and enjoy each other's company. The highlight of the day was our hilarious and heartwarming Dirty Santa gift exchange. From quirky gifts to unexpected surprises, our team knows how to spread holiday joy with a touch of humor. Santa Shoppe and Community Tree (Dec 2023)
We had a fantastic time at the "Santa Shoppe and Community Tree" event held at LHA on December 12. The festive atmosphere was contagious, with tenants embodying the true spirit of the season – full of joy and laughter. Representatives from 15 units and a total of 24 tenants participated in the event. For those who couldn't make it, we have arranged for them to come in this week for special pictures with the Community Tree. The excitement was palpable as everyone placed their personally decorated ornaments on the tree. A big thank you to Ms. Beth Redding from Roanoke Housing Authority, Wally Williamson, and Lindsey Williamson for their invaluable assistance. Our volunteers truly make these events memorable! Hot chocolate and cookies added to the warmth of the occasion. The children had the delightful task of choosing a gift, beautifully wrapped, to place under their Christmas tree for their mothers. As we reflect on this heartwarming event, we eagerly anticipate the upcoming New Year and the prospect of organizing more engaging events at LHA. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event a success!
East Park Christmas Event (Dec 2023)
Auburn Housing Authority Resident Services and Ivory Davis from East Alabama Mental Health hosted a Christmas Event for the East Park Community on December 9th . The residents were given refreshments and created Christmas tree ornaments and bracelets.
Ridgecrest Christmas Event (Dec 2023)
Auburn Housing Authority Resident Services and the Auburn Smart Bank hosted a Christmas Event for the Ridgecrest Community on December 7th . Over 50 residents attended the event as they celebrated with refreshments and color sheets.
AHA Annual Meeting and Pre-Iron Bowl Tailgate (Nov 2023)
What an incredible day of team spirit, camaraderie, and friendly rivalry at our Employee Iron Bowl Tailgate! Our employees brought their A-game in supporting their favorite teams. From spirited cheers to decked-out attire, the energy was contagious! The Iron Bowl rivalry added an extra layer of excitement to the tailgate. Good-natured banter and friendly competition from cornhole, ladder toss, and more! Our tailgate games brought out the competitive spirit in all of us. A big THANK YOU to the best employees. Sparkman Christmas Event (Dec 2023)
Auburn Housing Authority Resident Services hosted a Christmas Event for the Sparkman Community on December 9th . The residents snuggled up with hot chocolate, created Christmas ornaments and got to visit our special guest! Santa was loved by all.
Operation CommUNITY (October 2023)
Operation CommUNITY is our annual event aimed at unifying the community and fostering new relationships. We are delighted to have so many partners and local organizations come together and provide interactive activities and resources for their neighbors. We thank each of you for making Operation CommUNITY a success and can't wait to see you all again next year!
